Benefits & Side Effects of Sitting on Hot Water and Dettol for Infection

Another home cure that some people use to treat infections is sitting in hot water with Dettol. Dettol is a brand name for an antiseptic liquid that is often used to disinfect surfaces and clean wounds.

While there is some evidence that Dettol can destroy bacteria and other microbes, using it in a hot water bath may not be an effective strategy to cure an infection. In fact, the hot water may cause skin injury, and the Dettol may not penetrate deeply enough to kill the bacteria causing the condition.

I mean, the irritation and swelling may momentarily ‘tighten’ the vagina (not that you’d want anything near it in that situation).

Of course, the potential long-term destruction of your vagina’s normal pH and ecosystem would certainly make intercourse impossible until the resulting infections and irritations were cleared up.

Here’s a solid rule of thumb: if it’s not safe for your eyes, it’s probably not safe for your vagina. Would you ever put soap in your eye? Do not insert it inside your vagina. Would you spray Dettol (even diluted) directly into your eye? Keep it away from your vagina, you guessed it!

If you have a problem with inadequate muscle tone in your pelvic floor (for example, if you pee when you cough or sneeze, or if you had a traumatic birth that entailed ripping), consult a pelvic floor physiotherapist.

If you don’t, your vagina does not require ‘tightening’. It’s healthy, and it’s not designed to grip like a vice (which would be really uncomfortable for you!).

It is critical to seek medical assistance from a healthcare expert if you have an infection. Depending on the nature and severity of the infection, they can assess your condition and give you with appropriate treatment, which may involve antibiotics, pus drainage, or other medical treatments.

In general, it is not recommended to rely only on home remedies for infection therapy because they may be ineffective or may worsen the issue. Instead, seek medical guidance to ensure you receive the proper care and treatment for your condition.
